Newsday–an American daily newspaper serving Nassau and Suffolk counties in the NY City borough of Queens on Long Island, published the results of a three-year investigation into alleged discrimination by real estate agents in the communities on Long Island, NY in 2019. A major result of this investigation brought forth the need for real estate licensee education on Fair Housing. The purpose of this class is to provide real estate professionals working in today’s diverse real estate environment with the knowledge and information they need to understand the importance of fair housing laws and ensure they are responsible practicing real estate in a nondiscriminatory fashion. Objectives: After taking this class students will be able to: •Define and understand the topic of Fair Housing. • Describe the history of Fair Housing Laws and why they are important. • Understand Florida State and County level Fair Housing Protections. • Explain the Seven Protected Classes and the characteristics of each. • Recognize activities prohibited under Fair Housing Laws and what actions are illegal. • Understand how Fair Housing Laws affect Advertising & Marketing and describe best practices. • Explain Steering and Redlining and recognize the danger in making assumptions based on stereotypes. • Define and recognize explicit and implicit bias. • Explain the effects of bias in Fair Housing and how to prevent it. • Identify exemptions to Fair Housing Laws and adherence to Reasonable Accommodations. • Know what resources are available to provide Fair Housing information to client.

  CANCELATION POLICY A 72-HOUR written notice is needed to receive a refund of monies paid. A $10 cancelation fee and no refund for no-shows and short notice cancelations will be assessed. ATTENDANCE POLICY FREC requires a licensee to attend 90% of each of the classroom hours. Physical attendance is required for the duration of class. Please allow adequate commute time. This policy is strictly enforced. You are required to sign-in/sign-out to be recorded as having attended and to earn CE credit. No exceptions will be made. CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE   ALL MATERIALS ARE COPYRIGHTED AND MAY NOT BE REPRODUCED IN ANY WAY. VIOLATORS WILL HAVE TO LEAVE CLASS AND WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT OR A REFUND. Electronic note-taking is permitted on silent devices ONLY . Cell phone use is permitted ONLY outside of classroom during designated breaks. Please be sure your cell phone is silenced and put away.
